The Southeastern Conference, home to the University of Georgia Bulldogs and University of Florida Gators, is a hotbed when it comes to football revenue.
The University of Florida Gators rank fifth in football revenue at $72.81 million in 2010, according to data from the U.S. Department of Education.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is a hotbed of revenue nationally, with No. 2 University of Alabama, No. 3 Auburn University and No. 4 University of Georgia being in the top five as well.
The University of Texas Longhorns ranked first at $95.75 million. Its record of 5 wins and 7 losses for 2010 shows revenue does not always equal success on the field.
The University of Miami was well down the list with revenue of $26.2 million.
UF ranked No. 7 on expenses per football player at $50,458, while Ohio State University ranked first at $84,785. UM spent $41,038.
Our sister newspaper, the Memphis Business Journal, has a slideshow of the top 15 college football teams based on revenue and a database that is sortable by institution name, state, conference, football expenses, game day expenses, expenses per football player, wins, losses and football revenue.
