Travelling on holiday often requires that we insure ourselves against losses that may develop due to problems associated with health, trip arrangements, our baggage and valuables, among other factors. There is always the option of single and annual travel insurance but this is determined by the amount of trips we may have in a year. From the its name, single travel insurance is meant for one travel while the latter is meant for the so many trips one may have in an year. The annual option works out cheaper if one has more than two trips in a year.
Both these policies have their basis on the duration of a single trip, the travel destination, and the number and ages of the person/s travelling. In most cases people under the age of sixty six years are entitled to the maximum trip duration, while for elderly persons with pre existing medical conditions we may have reduced trip duration and also their travel may be restricted to particular countries. In both single and annual travel insurance the cost of premiums, benefits, excesses and extras is considered so as to determine the cheapest yet most viable and comprehensive insurance option.
As mentioned earlier, single travel insurance is suitable for single holidays; one gets cover only for the days that they need it. It is also the best option when one needs travel durations of up to fifteen months. Annual travel insurance, also known as multi trip insurance, has its individual trip durations reduced with the longest one being around four months. Annual multi trip is thus the cheapest option for multiple holidays/trips as it includes more flexibility where policies do not necessarily need changes for last minute travel issues.
There is no doubt that the annual travel insurance is a money intensive policy but comparing the covers provided in both policies you will notice that the annual option is better off. Other than the basic covers against cancellation, medical expenses, personal accident, travel delay, personal possessions, personal liability and legal expenses, different annual trip insurance options continue to offer covers such as cattery, withdrawal of services, muggings, hijack, scheduled airline failure, winter sports, golf, and wedding covers along with event cancellation extension covers. One or so many of these extension covers may come in handy even for a person on a single trip or holiday.
All in all, it boils down to choosing the policy you are most comfortable with in terms of cost and functionality. This means that we have to research around to compare costs and covers. Fortunately there are many single and annual travel insurance firms online so we can now make easier comparisons from home instead of physically visiting different brick and mortar insurance agents or firms.
